Why Every Woman Should Attend Our Self Defence Classes

Why we believe every women should learn to defend themselves

Introduction

It is an unfortunate reality that many women do not feel safe when they find themselves in everyday situations. In this article we will explore how learning the skills of self defence can help you gain confidence, make you feel safer and look how our self defence classes help you develop these skills.

The Reality Women Face

According to the office of national statistics 82% of women do not feel safe when walking home in the dark, this isn’t some unfounded paranoia. Here are some statistics showing why women’s concerns are valid:

  • Overall Harassment: In the year ending March 2024, 11.2% of women aged 16 and over reported experiencing harassment, compared to 6.6% of men.

  • Sexual Harassment: Approximately 7.1% of women reported experiencing sexual harassment, which is more than double the rate for men (2.7%).

  • Young Women at Higher Risk: Women aged 16 to 19 were particularly affected, with 19.8% reporting experiences of harassment.

It also important to realise that not all cases of harassment and abuse are reported as only 60% of people in Briton believe that the justice system effectively deals with violence against women and girls, making less likely for women and girls to report offences.

The reality is that the abusive behaviour that women experience on a daily basis can affect habits and confidence in daily life.

This is not something that should be ignored, in fact we would argue that women should take steps learn how to prepare and deal with these realities.

Why Self Defence Matters

Self defence is more than just being able to punch hard or escape from an attacker (though these skills are important). In our self defence classes you will learn how to asses your daily life and take actions to reduce your risk of being exposed to violence, learn the fundamentals of awareness, how to assess situations, how to set boundaries, deescalate an aggressor and how to escape situations before they escalate.

Understanding these skills will give you the ability to be able to live your life in a safer more confident way. Being prepared will empower you!
